MANHATTAN, Kan.—Kansas State University’s College of Agriculture received a $3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to develop new grain-based products to improve nutrition and health in developing countries. The grant is sponsored through USDA’s Micronutrient Fortified Food Aid Products Pilot.
The project, “Novel Sorghum-based Fortified Blended Foods for Infants and Young Children," will focus on developing nutritionally sound, fortified blended foods using combinations of corn and soy, sorghum and soy, and sorghum and cowpeas. The grant will continue to support the grain science department in the college in its continued research on more uncommon grains such as sorghum.
