MORRIS PlAINS, N.J.—BENEO announced an 8% price increase for its prebiotic fibers—inulin and oligofructose—beginning in January 2012.

According to the company, the price increase is due to rising costs of energy and raw materials, particularly chicory root in Belgium and Chile, from which the inulin and oligofructose are derived.

Dominique Speleers, Commercial Managing Director at BENEO-Orafti explains: “Taking into account the security of supply, the product quality, the service and support we provide as well as the technological and nutritional benefits of our active fibers, we are confident that we continue to offer very good value. Such a move will also allow us to further satisfy the ever increasing quality standards and demand for our products."

BENEO’s inulin and oligofructose are prebiotic fibers that help balance intestinal flora by stimulating beneficial bifidobacteria. They can be used to replace fat or sugar and reduce the caloric value without altering taste and texture. In addition, the ingredients improve absorption of minerals, and recent research shows that oligofructose supports a lower energy intake, and so supports weight management.
