TOKYO—Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack on April 7 delivered the keynote address at the Partners in Agriculture Global Food Security Symposium sponsored by the U.S. Grains Council. The symposium provided the chance for government, academic, and civil society leaders from the United States and Japan to discuss the challenge of ensuring food security in the face of a rapidly growing global population and climate change.
Vilsack addressed a number of key issues including climate change and its impact on global food supply; strategies to eliminating hunger; increasing crop outputs; country-led food security efforts; agriculture biotechnology; and international rules that reduce barriers, reduce costs, and increase reliability of trading systems.
