July 1 Deadline for School Lunch Reform

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. —USDA officials set a July 1 deadline for an overhaul to the agency's ground beef purchase program while asking for industry participation in to rework the food-safety program.

As reported by Meatingplace, Deputy Administrator of the Agricultural Marketing Service's Livestock and Seed Program Craig Morris told attendees of the National Meat Association’s annual conference that AMS plans to publish next month the final requirements for the 2010-2011 purchasing year. The agency also wants to have all vendors compliant and able to bid on contracts subject to the new rules on or after July 1.
