SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.—Virgo Publishing will recognize The Vitamin Shoppe (NYSE: VSI) with its annual Humanitarian Award at the 7th annual “Focus on the Future” conference, Feb. 16-19 at the Hyatt Regency Gainey Ranch Resort & Spa, Scottsdale, AZ.
The Humanitarian Award is given to an organization that has made significant contributions to the betterment of the community through charitable or public service work. The Vitamin Shoppe donated more than $300,000 to Vitamin Angels last year alone, and has supported the non-profit with in-store activities and personal involvement in the effort to provide vital nutrition to countries, communities and individuals.
"Vitamin Shoppe's support for Vitamin Angels has been exemplary,” said Howard Schiffer, founder of Vitamin Angels. “From Tom Tolworthy joining me for a week in the border regions of Haiti and Dominican Republic in 2009 to two Vitamin Shoppe managers now set to join us on another distribution this year, it shows the level of commitment The Vitamin Shoppe has for Vitamin Angels."
The Vitamin Shoppe also supports the National Multiple Sclerosis Society through the support of “Bike MS” cycling events nation wide. “Team Vitamin Shoppe” has more than 200 members in 15 states. The Vitamin Shoppe is also the presenting sponsor of the MS “Coast the Coast” ride in their home state of New Jersey. Most recently, The Vitamin Shoppe made a major donation to help with the relief work in Haiti. They partnered with Kids In Distressed Situation and donated $10,000 in cash, more than $20,000 in water and nutrition bars and on top of that, they were matching employee donations.
“As The Vitamin Shoppe continues to grow, so does its commitment to public health and public service,” said Peggy Jackson, Vice President of the Virgo Publishing Health and Nutrition Division. “Their actions set a great example for all of us to follow.”
