PHOENIX—Virgo Publishing announced that Jay Golden, Ph.D., co-director of the Sustainability Consortium, a non-profit scientific organization created by the world's leading consumer packaged goods (CPG) suppliers and retailers, will be the opening speaker at Focus on the Future, Feb. 16 to 19, 2010 at the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort and Spa in Scottsdale, Arizona. Golden’s presentation is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 17 from 8:45 to 9:45am.
The work of this well-funded group will have a major impact on how all producers of packaged products (and their suppliers and retailers) address the issue of sustainability and product Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). One of the missions of the Consortium is to develop the scientific tools and methods to support an indexing of consumer products through all phases of the product life cycle.
Partners and funders of the global effort to develop the science needed to index a product's life cycle include: Wal-Mart, P&G, Cargill, Church & Dwight, Dell, Dial, Disney, Dairy Management, General Mills, Henkel, HP, Kimberly-Clark, KPMG, Monsanto, PepsiCo, SC Johnson, Tetra Pak, Tyson, Unilever, and Waste Management. The universities involved include ASU and University of Arkansas as co-directors, as well as Harvard, Duke, University of Texas, University of Michigan, Cambridge, and University of California Berkeley.
