DECATUR, Ill.—Tate & Lyle released new clinical research demonstrating resistant starch as an important fiber for a healthy gut. The research, published in the August 2009 issue of the International Journal of Food Sciences and Nutrition, reported incorporating 25 g/d of PROMITOR™ Resistant Starch, an insoluble, natural dietary fiber, into the diet promotes regularity in healthy adults without producing significant gastrointestinal side effects.

The study, led by researchers at Provident Clinical Research, found foods manufactured with PROMITOR Resistant Starch can increase stool bulk by an average of 20 percent without changing bowel consistency and with no indication of gastrointestinal intolerance.

In addition to adding bulk, PROMITOR Resistant Starch is easily incorporated into foods during the manufacturing process. Tate & Lyle’s resistant starch also possesses functional properties, such as high crystallinity and heat stability, making it resilient to high-temperature cooking environments such as baking and extrusion.
