LONDON—There is no link between the consumption of processed meats and the risk of developing a particular type of brain tumor called glioma, according to a new study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Researchers examined data from three U.S.-based studies that were combined for the analysis. They looked at 335 cases of glioma and compared it to the subjects' diet, based on self-reported information, and the corresponding levels of nitrate, nitrite and nitrosamine. The risk of glioma was not elevated among those who ate the most processed meats compared with those who ate the least. No effect modification was observed by intake of vitamins C or E or other antioxidant measures.
