LAKEHAVEN, Australia—General practitioners and pediatricians believe they have a limited capacity to effectively identify and manage childhood obesity because of time constraints and a shortage of dietitians to help them manage overweight and obese children, according to the study in Nutrition & Dietetics.
Study findings suggest that many doctors may benefit from increased training and a health system that better remunerates them for the time investment needed to provide management consistent with best practice. Reorientation of local public sector nutrition services also may provide them with better support when managing overweight and obese pediatric clients.
