DAVIS, Calif.—California’s fruit and nut crops may be threatened by climate change as winter temperatures increase, interrupting the natural climatic triggers for many crops, according to a new study from the University of California, Davis and the University of Washington.

Researchers concluded that the tree crop industry in California likely will need to develop agricultural adaptation measures to cope with the projected changes—for some crops, production may no longer be possible.
