SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—Natural ingredients are going mainstream as Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, 11th Edition added a dose of healthy words to its newest edition.
Acai, defined as “a small dark purple fleshy berrylike fruit of a tall slender palm (Euterpe oleracea) of tropical Central and South America that is often used in beverages,” is now included as well as goji (“the dark red mildly tart berry of a thorny chiefly Asian shrub (Lycium barbarum) that is typically dried and used in beverages”).
Other new words of note included in the dictionary are: “carbon footprint,” “green collar” and “locavore.”
