WINNIPEG, Manitoba—Reuters is reporting that two rail car shipments of canola meal from Bunge's Canadian crushing plants tested positive for Salmonella after inspection by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) at the border in May.
According to a Bunge spokesperson, the contamination was traced to two plants—one in Hamilton, Ontario and one in Nipawin, Saskatchewan. Bunge immediately shut down the canola lines at each plant, with each now undergoing scheduled cleaning.
