WASHINGTON—Al Almanza, Administrator, Food Safety and Inspection Service, released a statement thanking those who provided evidence resulting in the conviction of William Cunningham, who was found guilty of poisoning his two young children in 2006 in an attempt to extort money from Campbell’s Soup Co.
Cunningham pleaded guilty to making false claims against the soup company and tampering with a consumer product. For this, he received a five-year federal prison sentence. Further, a state jury found him guilty on seven counts of aggravated assault and child cruelty charges, for which he will serve a 100-year sentence.
