WASHINGTON—International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) released its 2008 revised Allergens Guidelines and Best Industry Practices for the dairy industry report, which discusses how to set up an allergen-awareness program in plants and includes examples of best practices that will reduce the possibility of cross-contact.
Updated sections take an in-depth look at the federal allergen labeling requirements that were mandated by the 2004 Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act and went into full effect in 2006, as well as a new review of the voluntary use of food allergy icons that can provide easily recognizable symbols in manufacturing plants and warehouses.
