PISCATAWAY, N.J.—Sabinsa Corp. announced self-affirmed GRAS status for its Indian gooseberry ingredient. Marketed under the name Saberry™, the ingredient is an extract of fruits of Emblica officinalis Gaertn.
After a comprehensive review of safety and toxicology data by an independent panel of scientists, the self-affirmed GRAS status allows manufacturers to add the superfruit ingredient in a variety of foods and beverages, including baked goods, dairy products, jams, puddings, soups, snacks, beverages and more.
The fruits of Emblica officinalis, known in India as Amla, are prized as adaptogens.
“We are excited to introduce Amla to the world market backed by research and processing expertise that brings its applications to a whole new level. Our research efforts established correct biomarkers, and now we can enter the functional food side with certainty of safety for our Saberry ingredient,” stated Shaheen Majeed, Marketing Director.
