LONDON—The London Telegraph is reporting that POM Wonderful pulled its advertisement depicting a bottle of POM juice with a severed noose around its neck with the verbiage: "Cheat death—the antioxidant power of pomegranate juice" after consumer complaints that the ad was misleading, pointing out that drinking the juice would not make them live forever.
"In their view, consumers would not infer from the claim that they could become immortal by drinking the product," said a spokesman for the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).
The spokesman said that the complaints had been upheld, explaining that while the "immortality" implication was clearly tongue in cheek, consumers may be led to believe the drink could prolong their life.
