SAN FRANCISO—GoodGuide.com is adding more than 30,000 packaged foods to its database today and offering a nutritional analysis of the packaged foods using a measure called the "ratio of restricted to recommended" nutrients.

The ratio is calculated by adding up all the recommended vitamins, minerals and other nutrients, adding up restricted fats, sugar, salt and cholesterol, and creating a ratio of the two figures that indicates how healthy the food is overall, reported the San Francisco Chronicle.

"The No. 1 request from users was food information. People wanted us to rate food on: What is in it? Is it safe? Where is it from?" said GoodGuide founder Dara O'Rourke, an associate professor of Environmental Science, Policy and Management at UC Berkeley.
