Danone to Shelve Essensis Brand

LONDON—Datamonitor is reporting that Danone plans to withdraw its Essensis brand of functional yogurts from the French market due to weak sales.

Essensis was introduced to the French market in 2007 and has been rolled out to other European markets in the two years since. The yogurt claims to nourish the skin from within, with a combination of borage oil, vitamin E and green tea extract, and is said to provide notable improvements to any skin type after six weeks of daily consumption.

According to Datamonitor, Danone will concentrate on its core brands for the time being rather than experiment with new products, as the recession takes hold.
