LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Beginning this year, Yum! Brands, Inc. has announced that all of its U.S. chains, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, Long John Silver’s and A&W All-American Food, will voluntarily post calorie information on the menu boards of company-owned units, and is encouraging franchised stores to do likewise. Implementation is slated to be complete by Jan. 2011. This is the first move by a restaurant-chain management group to voluntarily post such information on menus.

In addition to posting information on its own menus, Yum! Brands will reportedly call for federal measures to establish uniform guidelines for menu board labeling of calorie information. The restaurant group has also stated that is will no longer run television advertisements during shows specifically targeted to audiences younger than 12 years old. In addition, the company will launch an online exercise program to help encourage active, healthy lifestyles.
