College Station, Texas—Açaí berry antioxidants can be absorbed by the human body, according to a study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry. Study researchers found that 12 to 24 hours after consumption of açaí pulp and açaí juice, blood and urine samples revealed increases in antioxidant activity and absorption of antioxidant anthocyanins into the blood. Researchers said future studies are needed to help determine if açaí berries have any disease-preventing health benefits.
