NORTH BERGEN, N.J.—Frutarom USA completed a formal marketing and distribution agreement with BLIS Technologies Ltd., Dunedin, New Zealand, to take on responsibility for all North American sales and marketing, warehousing and distribution activities for the BLIS K12 probiotic. BLIS will focus on further product development efforts with the University of Otago, New Zealand, which originally produced the BLIS organisms. Studies at the university found the organism produces two antibacterial peptides, named Salivaricin A and B, which may protect the oral cavity and sinuses from infection by producing a bacteriocin when under threat from potential pathogens.

“This is a significant opportunity for us to expand our business around a product with both an exceptional safety profile and excellent record of clinical validation for its effectiveness in preventing many common infections of the upper airways and oral cavity,” said Laurent Leduc, vice president USA Health Division, Frutarom USA. “The great thing about BLIS K12 is that it has no peers in the market. This product is unique and with the patents around it, it will likely remain that way for a long time”

The BLIS K12 advanced probiotic will be officially unveiled by Frutarom (Booth #18078) during the SupplySide West show in Las Vegas, Oct. 22 to 24.
