WASHINGTON—Three elderly men died, one baby was a stillbirth and a second was born premature due to a Listeria outbreak. These findings, released October 9, are part of a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention detailing the consequences of a 2007 Listeria outbreak from an undisclosed Massachusetts dairy. According to Reuters: "The findings from this outbreak underscore the importance of physical facility and equipment design and cross-contamination controls, particularly in older facilities that manufacture perishable, ready-to-eat foods that have a long shelf life and that support the growth of L. monocytogenes under refrigeration, the report reads.”
