Carotenoids May Block Colon Cancer

GANGWON-DO, Korea—Algae-extracted carotenoids such as lutein and zeaxanthin can reduce colon cancer growths, NutraIngredients reported. According to the Web Site, “the carotenoids extracted from two popular Asian algae forms – Chlorella ellipsoidea (CEE) and Chlorella vulgaris (CVE) – blocked growth of human colon cancer cells, the scientists found.” Researcher also found that when used in combination lutein and zeaxanthin exhibited more-powerful anticancer effects.
