LONG BEACH, Calif.—BI Nutraceuticals developed a comprehensive database of its ingredient offerings that have GRAS (generally recognized as safe) status for use in food and beverage applications. The company reviewed its catalog of botanical offerings and cross checked the U.S. and Canadian regulatory status of the ingredients; a total of 298 ingredients offered by BI have been deemed GRAS by FDA or the Flavor and Extract Manufacturers Association (FEMA) for use in various foods and beverage applications.

“This database allows BI to provide accurate regulatory guidance to our customer base surrounding the use of our botanical powders and extracts in functional food and beverage applications,” said Walter Postelwait, vice president of sales and marketing. “We plan to continually update and refine this database to ensure its accuracy and are now able to provide critical regulatory information in addition to lending our expertise in product formulation.”

The database is available on request to all BI food and beverage customers.
