BEIJING ─ Another infant has died in China from tainted milk powder, raising the death toll to two in the Sanlu Group formula recall, Reuters reported.
500 other infants have fallen ill with kidney stones as a result of the tainted milk.
Melamine, a chemical used in plastics, fertilizers and cleaning products was added by farmers or dealers supplying milk to Sanlu to make the milk’s protein level appear high than it actual was.
