Online grocery shopping patterns examined across nine countries by Datamoniter revealed a variety of consumers’ habits and preferences. Study findings showed that consumers across the globe have clearly increased their online grocery shopping. The study found that the European market is more developed and diversified, yet the U.S. market has experienced a higher number of total online sales. The study also found time-saving features such as easy-to-navigate pages and saveable shopping lists are key to attracting shoppers. One challenge for online grocery retailers is satisfying shoppers' sensory or experiential needs, including appearance, touch and smell.
