MILWAUKEE— A recent hearing about how foods are marketed to kids revealed that food makers, the government and schools need to take more action to combat obesity, the Associated Press reported.
According to the Associated Press, “children can't make healthy food decisions for themselves and they and their parents are being influenced by advertising,” Dr. Julie Gerberding, the head of the CDC, said. "Researchers must understand the relationship between advertising and obesity, and that there should be standards and agreement on what healthy choices are.”
Other actions that could be taken include: Advertising only healthy products to children; adopting nutrition standards in schools; and making healthy eating and exercise education readily available to children.
