PLYMOUTH, England─Bisphenol A (BPA) may be associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes, according to a new study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

According to nature.com, this is the first large-scaled investigation of the highly-publicized, controversial chemical’s relation to human disease.

However, the study’s findings do not establish a causal link between BPA and disease, researchers were not able to determine which came first: higher exposure to BPA or illness. "I think our study definitely puts a scientific question mark over this compound," said study researcher David Melzer of the Peninsula Medical School."Still, this is the first study. It has to be repeated."
