One person is dead in Ontario and 16 others throughout Canada are ill as a result of a Listeria monocytogenes outbreak, the Public Health Agency of Canada reported.
Ready-to-eat-meat products are being investigated as the potential source of the outbreak, the agency said.
Just yesterday, Maple Leaf Foods expanded its deli meat recall and temporarily closed a plant where listeria contamination was suspected.
Testing is being done to determine if outbreak is linked to Maple Leaf products, however, the agency stresses that the outbreak has not been definitively link to Maple Leaf products.
Test results are not expected to be confirmed for a least a couple of days, agency officials reported.
