Swanson serves as the Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension
Service (CSREES) National Program Leader for Maternal and Child Health
stationed at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)/Agriculture
Research Services (ARS) Children's Nutrition Research Center (CNRC) and
as Adjunct Associate Professor of Pediatrics-Nutrition for Baylor College
of Medicine. She complements the CNRC research and transfer mission by
assisting in providing a mechanism for rapidly translating updated nutrition
research findings and making the "translations" available to
a wide range of governmental and non-governmental agencies, as well as
providers and recipients of maternal, infant and child nutrition and health
care. Dr. Swanson also identifies areas of educational needs of maternal,
infant, and child health components within the Extension network and helps
identify educational research needs that may form the basis for new cooperative
research.
Dr. Swanson’s research has focused primarily in the
area of nutrition education research, behavioral determinants of eating
patterns, and best practices for feeding young children in group settings.
She has been active in a number of educational and training projects in
the area of food safety, food sustainability and nutrition in developing
countries. |
