Speakers

Scott Backman
is Market Development Manager, Functional Foods and Food Technology, for Cognis Nutrition & Health.  Cognis is a global supplier of natural health-enhancing ingredients.  Backman is a seasoned industry veteran with 20 years of experience selling and marketing specialty ingredients to major food and beverage producers worldwide.  He serves a pivotal role in developing Cognis’ expertise in wellness ingredients as demand grows for customized applications.  Prior to joining Cognis, he was Senior Account Manager for Sensient Colors in St. Louis, Mo.  He earned his bachelor’s degree in business from Central Michigan University. He is a 2006 Director of the Chicago Drug and Chemical Association, and a member of the Institute of Food Technologists.

Greg Horn
has been in the beverage industry for 20 years. For the last four years, Horn has been the Senior Director of the Health and Wellness Division at WILD Flavors where his primary roles are to investigate the benefits, application and commercialization of novel health ingredients. He was the Director of Beverage Technical Services at WILD Flavors specializing in developing and commercializing innovative beverages for the consumer market. Prior to that, he worked for Pepsi Cola managing the development and national rollout of several new initiatives.  Horn is serving as the Vice Chairperson of the Non-Traditional Beverage Committee in the International Society of Beverage Technologists (ISBT). He has presented numerous papers on product development, trends in the beverage industry and new innovations.  He received his master’s degree in food science from University of California-Davis, his bachelor’s in food science from Rutgers University and a master’s degree in business from Polytechnic University.
