Let's Hear it for a Couple of Real Winners
Yesterday, the U.S. State Department announced the winners of the 2010 World Food Prize. Considered to be one of the top honors in our industry, it was created by 1970 Nobel Peace Prize winner Norman Borlaug and first awarded in 1986. It focuses on those individuals and organizations that help increase food supplies in developing countries.
This year there were two winners: David Beckman, president of Bread for the World, a Christian-advocacy organization that lobbies lawmakers to support anti-hunger policies; and Jo Luck, president of Heifer International, which brings food and income-producing animals to extremely poor families around the world.
Congratulations to two very deserving honorees.
