Milk Surplus, Downturn Hits Dairy Industry

In the wake of a global economic slowdown, an oversupply of milk—and derivative products, like milk powder, butter and whey proteins—is driving down prices while dairy farmers struggle to feed and care for their herds.

Shutting down milk production is not as simple as closing an assembly line.

However, most farmers aren’t panicking and are attempting to weather this economic storm instead of selling a portion of their herd.
